Old Guys Rule

Have you seen those T-shirts? “Old guys rule.” When I was younger I always wondered what they ruled? The guys wearing them seemed to be pretty laid back and carefree. They always looked like they knew something the rest of us didn’t.

Now that I am moving toward my own ‘old guy’ phase, I think I am picking up on what that something is.

What old guys know:

  • Comfort in dress is much better than style

  • Everybody has an opinion and most of them are idiots

  • What you think is a problem usually isn’t

  • Experience is underrated

  • Energy is overrated

  • Time doesn’t heal all wounds, but it does allow you to adapt

  • Life is seldom fair, but that’s okay, it wasn’t mean to be

  • Listening makes you appear wise

  • You don’t always get what you want, but mostly you will always have what you need

  • Simple is better

  • There is more to laugh at than you think

  • When you always get your way you tend to lose gratefulness

  • There is always something to learn

  • Going to bed early is the best means of sleeping in

  • Old people aren’t grumpy just aware

  • The faster you go the more red lights you will hit

  • Life is a long game, enjoy each segment

This is stuff most younger folks don’t care much about. And why should they? Everyone has to earn their T-shirt.
