Wisdom can be found in unexpected places. One such place for me was an antique store. I was in a small town on the coast of California. Joni and I were with some friends. We were meandering our way through the rooms full of stuff. It was a homage to the line, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
When I find myself on a pilgrimage through this types of businesses I am seldom shopping. Instead I am looking for stories behind the items. The stories are typically of my own imaginative making. I wonder who the people were behind the items. But that is for another blog.
On this occasion I came across three signs that I believe contained a great deal of wisdom.
How come people who think they know everything never seem to know when to shut up?
You need only two tools in life WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn’t, use Duct Tape
I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not sure
Each is pithy. Each is filled with, I’m sure, backstories. Each are practical. Each says a great deal with few words. Each conjured up in me a sense of…that makes sense.
The last one I’d like to share I believe I saw on FaceBook. “One day you will tell your story about how you overcame what you went through and it’ll be someone else’s survival guide.”
Wisdom is more often found in the unexpected places, people, and experiences. If you limit yourself to the thought that wisdom can only be found in the halls of academia, in great books of history, or overly educated pundits you will miss life-altering insights.
